The Bible does not promote the kind of slavery that we often assume when we hear the word "slavery." Kidnapping and selling people is condemned throughout the Bible. Mistreatment and abuse of those under one's authority is forbidden. Instead, we are called to love others and treat them with dignity. Servants are told to "honor" their masters and to do all their work as unto the Lord. Masters are told to care for their servants and treat them in a way that is pleasing to their Heavenly Master.
